Rona
There once was a beautiful lady called Rona. Rona’s eyes were as beautiful as twinkling stars of the night. Rona lived in a little kainga by the sea with her husband and their two little boys. They all absolutely loved to go fishing. But there was a big problem, Rona always bossed them around. One day Rona’s husband said the moon is good for fishing so me and the boys are going to go fishing from the island just across the bay. When we get back we expect that you will have the food ready. When they left Rona started to make a hangi. Then she realised she didn't have any water to cook the haingi so she ran down the path to the spring. Then the moon went behind a cloud and Rona tripped over a root and then she shouted at the moon ‘‘pokokohua.’’ Then the moon angrily snatched Rona by the waist and yanked her into the night sky. As soon as the moon grabbed her waist Rona grabbed tightly to the ngaio tree.
Rona got stuck frozen in the moon forever.
